Welcome to MacFourth.com

This web site is a neighbourhood directory for the businesses on West 4th Ave. from around Macdonald Street (2600 block) to Alma Street.

"MacFourth" comes from combining Macdonald Street & West Fourth Ave.

The shops and restaurants in this neighbourhood are unique and innovative. Many of these locally-owned businesses are destination shops, and some of the finest foods in the city are available right here.

Good news, especially for those expecting!

Nima'ma is now open at 2948 West 4th Ave. They had a soft launch on Sunday April 6th, and are now open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm and Sundays 12-5pm.

On a less-positive note, some businesses are now gone from the area as of this month, including
Saffron Fourth Avenue and Memory Lane Cards. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that they will be missed, and we wish them the best in future endeavours.

More new photos are on the way, but in the meantime, here are profiles with interior photos for 3 new places:

The new Starbucks at 4th & Bayswater opened just last week. It is lovely inside, with a mix of cool glass tiles, woods and dark neutrals, plus a stunning orange-red wall near the back. There are several seating areas, from big chairs at the front, to a banquette, and small tables and chairs.

Photos are not posted just yet... they'll be coming as soon as this volunteer has a nice sunny day off to take pictures and update this web site.

Tonight I enjoyed an evening of music at Open Mike Tuesday at Wired Monk! I also just found out they now have their very own web site:

Construction at 4th & Bayswater looks nearly complete...

I just heard from a new retailer who will be taking a space in the new Black Swan building, next to the new Starbucks, and it is something very new for the area - maternity!

Teena Legris, Owner/Director let me know a few things about the store:

"A little bit about Nima'ma Maternity:

- I will carry products will vary from mid to high end local and
international maternity apparel, organic cosmetics and skincare,
Canadian-designed jewellery and a small selection of maternity-related accessories.

- Nima'ma means My Mother in Cree to celebrate and honour motherhood (my mother is Woodland Cree).

I have my first print ad in the Feb/Mar issue of West Coast Families' Yummy Mummy section (p. 36) and will have another one in March with The Mompreneur! At the moment, I'm having my website designed but you can see the holding page at www.nimama.ca"

I took a peek a few days ago, and it's a very lovely store.

Here's a photo from the exterior:

Sal from the Corkscrew Inn emailed me to say:

"Our innkeeper at the Corkscrew Inn is
leaving next spring, and we are actively searching for someone (or couple)
to take over. I thought of your site as we'd really prefer someone familiar
with the neighbourhood, someone who can answer guests' questions."

I don't know the details, but if you're up on the 'hood and looking to do some Innkeeping, have a look at their web site below for info and contacts, and give them a call!
